From Spain: Manchester City set meeting to bring back former youth player from PSG

Manchester City could bring back a former academy player with representatives of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot due in Manchester for talks tomorrow, RAC1 reports.

Rabiot, 23, had a spell in the Man City academy back in 2008 before returning to France, and has since gone on to break into the PSG first team while also winning 6 caps for France.

And the midfielder has rejected several attempts by the Ligue 1 giants to renew his contract, which expires in June 2019, making him an enticing prospect for some of Europe’s top clubs next summer – if not sooner.

The Paris-born player is a priority target for Barcelona, but the insertion of City could complicate things for Pep Guardiola’s former club, particularly as Barça are now unlikely to sign him before Spain’s transfer window closes at the end of the month.

It remains to be seen how serious City’s interest will be and if he is a concrete target, if Blues bosses will wait a year to sign Rabiot on a free transfer or attempt to acquire him for a cut-price fee in January from PSG.

PSG ahave a cold relationship with the Premier League champions because of the political conflict between the ownership (UAE and Qatar), so any deal could prove difficult. City signed teen prospect Claudio Gomes from the Parisiens by agreeing terms with him in January and waiting for him to run down his contract at the end of the season.
