On-loan Man City winger: Fernandinho, Nasri and Kolarov were like brothers to me

Ghanaian winger Thomas Agyepong, who has just begun his third loan move away from Manchester City by joining Hibernian for the season, has spoken highly of his parent club and one player in particular.

Agyepong, 21, is a lightning fast winger who will almost certainly never feature for Pep Guardiola’s side but has benefited from City’s infrastructure and the support of Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho, who he has described as a ‘big brother’ figure.

“Fernandinho is like a big brother to me at City. Samir Nasri was sometimes and Aleksandar Kolarov too,” Agyepong told the Scottish press.

“But the big one was Fernandinho. He used to speak to me all the time.

“Even now he still keeps in contact and he texts me and speaks to me and tells me to keep working hard to achieve my dreams.”

City are known to have many players who they loan out and ultimately sell on, often profiting on their talents, and Agyepong, who has been at the club since arriving from Ghana’s Right to Dream Academy in 2015, has had spells at FC Twente and NAC Breda.

Despite never featuring for City, Agyepong feels blessed to be part of the club and have access to the state-of-the-art facilities.

“It’s great at City. It’s a beautiful place. It’s a multi-million-pound club and the facilities are amazing.

“I wasn’t able to play any games. I’d have loved to.

“But I got experience training with the first team. And when you go up against players like those you have to up your level and you develop.

“You make a lot of mistakes because you are young, but they are there to help you.”

“When I was there they gave me advice. If I made a mistake they would tell me to keep going and if I did something right they would tell me too. That was good to hear from the best.”

Agyepong has yet to make his debut for Hibernian and was an unused substitute in yesterday’s 1-1 draw against Aberdeen, but will be looking to follow in Brandon Barker’s footsteps from last season and work his way into Neil Lennon’s team.
