Manchester City’s under-23 side drew 1-1 with Liverpool this evening at the Etihad Stadium in an evenly fought Premier League 2 contest.
Liverpool took the lead in the 53rd minute through Liam Millar with an assist from former Manchester City academy player Rafael Camacho.
It would take a lovely team goal from the young Blues to level things up in the 75th minute and it was a goal that will look very familiar to City fans.
Substitute Ian Carlo Poveda outwitted a Liverpool midfielder with a turn that was almost a carbon copy of what we have seen so many times from David Silva. He then played a nice pass to Tyreke Wilson who sent a picture perfect cross, much like what we have seen from Benjamin Mendy, into the box for Rabbi Matondo to slot home.
It could easily have been a goal constructed by Silva and Mendy, then finished off by Aguero or Jesus, and highlights the shared philosophy that runs through every level at Manchester City. Pep Guardiola will undoubtedly have his eyes on some of these starlets after promoting Phil Foden and Brahim Diaz from the under-23s last season.
