Manchester City face a potentially difficult away day at newly-promoted Wolves in this weekend’s early Premier League kick-off.
Nuno Espírito Santo’s Wolves side have yet to win since returning to the top-flight, despite opposition players being sent off in games against Everton and Leicester, but have shown promise and will be up for it against the Premier League champions on Saturday.
And it will be 47-year-old Martin Atkinson who has the whistle for this game having today been appointed as referee for the game.
Despite their dominant, record-breaking form in the Premier League last season, City were mixed under Atkinson. He was in charge of the 1-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, which featured Kevin De Bruyne’s epic winner, but also oversaw the 1-1 draw at Burnley and 3-2 loss to Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium – a match in which he handed out nine yellow cards.
