Patrick Roberts named in Girona squad despite hold-up with move from Man City

Girona FC have named Patrick Roberts in the squad for their La Liga opener against Real Valladolid – despite not even announcing his loan signing from Manchester City yet.

The 21-year-old, who is heading to Spain after two-and-a-half seasons up north with Celtic, arrived in Barcelona on Tuesday for his medical checks and other formalities ahead of a season-long loan switch to City’s partner club.

City Watch understands Girona had planned to announce and present Roberts on Wednesday but some last minute bureaucratic issues prevented the deal from being formalised.

The issue is nothing serious, with Girona publicly listing Roberts in their squad for tomorrow’s game, in which Patrick could make his debut in Spain’s top flight. An official announcement for his signing could arrive imminently

Roberts’ fellow Manchester City loanee Aleix Garcia is also in the squad to face Valladolid and the two could yet be joined by Douglas Luiz, with Girona one of the clubs interested in him after he was denied a work permit to play for City.
