After two-and-a-half years at Celtic and seven trophies later, Roberts is about to face a tougher challenge by spending the season in Spain’s La Liga, where he will come up against the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. He
has been named in the squad for Girona’s season opener against Real Valladolid tomorrow.
The highly-rated England youth international had an injury hit campaign last season, limiting him to 8 appearances in the Scottish Premiership.
City had wanted Roberts to experience a tougher challenge last year, but he turned down interest from England, Germany and France, insisting on a return to Celtic.
A year in the Spanish top-flight will really test the skillful winger and determine his level and what chance he may have of breaking through at City, a club stacked with high-level wingers.
