The Etihad Stadium will welcome the Champions of England, Manchester City, for the first time this season on Sunday afternoon when Pep Guardiola’s men host Huddersfield Town.
David Wagner’s side gave City two tough games last season, falling to a narrow 2-1 defeat at the Etihad, and holding the eventual champions to a 0-0 draw at the King Power Stadium.
It promises to be an interesting match and now has a referee with the experience Andre Marriner appointed to take charge of the Matchweek 2 game.
All four City games with Marriner in charge last season were away from home, and three of them were wins – over Newcastle, Arsenal and Southampton. However, one of City’s two league defeats last season, the 4-3 loss to Liverpool at Anfield, came under the 47-year-old’s watch.
Marriner had just one Huddersfield fixture last season, a 1-3 home defeat to Chelsea in mid-December.
