The 19-year-old striker had been subject to City interest since February when it was reported that a €25million bid had gone in, but Sporting were hoping to make an even bigger profit on him before the teenager quit the club following an attack on their training ground.
City made further attempts to sign Leao, but he and his representatives hesitated on joining the Premier League champions over a fear that he wouldn’t receive game time.
Lille then made an offer, guaranteeing more game time in France’s top flight and his move to the Ligue 1 club has now been confirmed.
