Pep Guardiola all but confirmed during an appearance on Sky Sports tonight that there will be no more major signings arriving this summer.
The Manchester City boss said after the weekend win over Chelsea in the Community Shield that he was hoping to bring in one more central midfielder before the deadline – a player who could cover for Fernandinho.
However, Pep said, albeit very briefly and casually, that City were not expecting anyone new in.
“I think we are not going to make any more signings,” Guardiola said on Sky Sports.
And as he suggested on Sunday, that could lead to John Stones stepping into the midfield, an idea Pep spoke of again.
“John, for the qualities he has, I think he can play there – but I dont know, we have never tried him there.”
City have also been attempting to get a work permit for Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz, who could act as further cover for his compatriot Fernandinho.
