Referee appointed for Arsenal vs. Manchester City (12/8/2018)

Manchester City begin the defence of their Premier League title with traditionally one of the trickiest away days of the season, against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

After yesterday’s comfortable win over another top London side Chelsea, the Blues will be hopeful of getting something when they take on Arsenal, newly managed by Unai Emery.

Taking charge of Sunday’s game between the two rivals will be Michael Oliver, who was in charge of the Etihad fixture between these two sides last season, which saw City come out 3-1 winners over Arsenal.

The Blues were 4-0-0 under Oliver last season, the other wins coming against Brighton (away), Manchester United (away) and Chelsea (home).

Other than their defeat to City, Arsenal were unbeaten under Oliver last season with away wins over Crystal Palace and Huddersfield and a 0-0 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Oliver was also in charge as the Gunners beat Chelsea 2-1 in the second-leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final – which led them to Wembley, where they were beaten by City.
