Manchester City and Girona FC have signed an agreement for Puma to replace Nike and Umbro as their respective kit dealers, Spanish source Mundo Deportivo reports.
The deal has been in the pipeline for months and the Barcelona-based newspaper, which has ties to City’s Catalan group and La Liga club Girona, says it is all signed now and will go into effect from the 2019/20 season.
The agreement will be extendable to the entire City Football Group except for New York City FC, who must wear Adidas because of their agreement with Major League Soccer.
City’s contract with Nike was not one of the most lucrative in economic terms, having been signed years ago, and the ‘template’ kits have been unpopular with many of the fans, who have craved change.
Though they do not reveal any specific figures, Mundo Deportivo claim this new kit deal will put Manchester City high on the list of earners in the sports sponsorship world.
