Hoping to further capitalise on the friendship between Pep Guardiola and Marcelo Bielsa, Leeds United have made a late play to sign Manchester City wonderkid Lukas Nmecha on loan from the Premier League champions.
Nmecha’s fellow England youth international, Jack Harrison, has already joined Leeds for the season, but according to the reliable Alan Nixon, Bielsa is also eyeing the highly-rated Nmecha who recently scored in City’s pre-season win over Bayern Munich.
West Brom, Blackburn and Swansea all want 19-year-old Nmecha, one of England’s finest strike talents in his age group, but the presence of Bielsa at Leeds could give them an advantage, with El Loco one of the coaches Guardiola is known to respect most.
Nmecha has been telling friends he is off to Swansea, but the arrival of Leeds into the mix may leave the Welsh club disappointed with Guardiola likely to trust Bielsa most with the young forward’s development.
Guardiola gave Nmecha a handful of cameo appearances last season, including late substitute appearances against West Ham and Brighton late in the Premier League season.
In the absence of Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus, Lukas led the line for the Blues in pre-season games against Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool and Bayern Munich, making a good impression.
