Manchester City are seriously considering a late attempt to sign Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti before the English transfer window shuts next week, Italian source TMW claims.
City’s stance since missing out on Jorginho to Chelsea has been that a new high-profile midfield recruit is unlikely, but today’s news from Italy claims that Pep Guardiola is ‘seriously thinking’ about the 25-year-old Italy international.
Such a deal would be extremely complicated, particularly so late in the window, because of a cold relationship between the clubs, who are owned by Middle Eastern nations (PSG-Qatar, City-UAE) at odds with each other.
For any transfer to happen, TMW reports that Verratti will need to tell the Parisien leaders that he wants a move to the Premier League. At that point, City would make their approach and try to secure one of world football’s elite central midfielders.
PSG are pursuing Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante and should that improbable deal be done, it would leave the door slightly ajar for Verratti to leave Parc des Princes.
Verratti to City should be considered a remote, unlikely transfer to happen but the Blues are interested and could make an attempt to make Marco Verratti their second big-name signing of the summer before the window slams shut.
