Kevin De Bruyne will accompany his Manchester City teammates to Wembley this weekend for the Community Shield against Chelsea – but will not play against his former club.
The 27-year-old is returning a little later than many other City stars following his post-World Cup break, and will return to training on Monday.
His agent confirmed the information to Belgian newspaper HBVL.
“At Manchester City the players want to return earlier because they want to be ready when the season starts,” Patrick De Koster told the newspaper. “Kev had permission to stay on holiday until Monday.
“But he absolutely wants join the team at Wembley to see them play [against Chelsea]. After the game he will return with the team to Manchester.”
“The team spirit was the key last year’s success and Kev wants to be a part of the team from day one.”
That means he’ll miss the pre-season game against Chelsea but could be ready to face Arsenal a week later when City visit the Emirates for their first Premier League game of the season.
De Bruyne made more club appearances last season than any prior campaign, featuring 52 times in all competitions, before playing the full 90 minutes SIX times at the World Cup.
KDB, who was instrumental in City’s double-winning success last season, will come back refreshed and ready to go for another big season.
