Girona FC remain in negotiations with sister club Manchester City about taking more players on loan for the new season with a new name popping up in Spain today.
Brahim Diaz tops the wish list of Girona sporting director but the player’s resistance to joining the Spanish club means they are in standby mode to see if the situation changes.
According to Marca, the other name Girona are dreaming of is Oleksandr Zinchenko, the versatile Ukrainian player who has been subject to interest from Wolves, Fulham and Newcastle this summer.
Wolves had a £16million bid for Oleks accepted, but have since moved on to new targets with the 21-year-old not giving them sufficient encouragement that he wants to move.
Having played a good number of minutes in the Premier League and convinced Pep Guardiola though, Zinchenko is rated as an even more complicated signing than Brahim. It would require City to want to keep him but for him to play more minutes away from the Etihad this year, and with the lack of a major midfield signing, Zinchenko’s prospects of game time have perhaps improved.
Girona have only signed one City talent on loan so far this summer – Spain under-21 midfielder Aleix Garcia – though have yet to formally announce him despite him appearing for them in pre-season friendlies.
The Catalan club are hoping to add one or two more players from City, with Brahim and Zinchenko their wishes, but proving to be difficult. A second spell at the Estadi Montilivi for Douglas Luiz, who showed flashes of potential for City against Bayern Munich in America, could be more realistic.
