The future of Manchester City wonderkid Brahim Diaz is expected to be resolved in the next 48 to 72 hours, Barcelona-based newspaper SPORT reports.
Brahim has yet to agree to a new contract amid doubts about his future, and with his deal expiring in 2019, City risk losing one of their finest prospects for little to nothing.
The young attacker, who turns 19 on Friday, is desperate to stay with Pep Guardiola this season and prove himself, but Blues bosses are in favour of loaning him out to partner club Girona FC for a year of regular football in La Liga.
City are loaded with attacking talent and the arrival of club-record signing Riyad Mahrez will make game time harder to achieve for Brahim at this developing stage of his career.
With his contract up in 2019, that gives negotiating power to Brahim and his representatives – his agent being City ally Pere Guardiola, brother of Pep – in determining the next step of his career.
City hope to convince young Brahim that the best option for him is to renew his contract and then head out on loan to Girona and spend a year maturing in the competitive Spanish league. The club are said to be very conscious of the fact they must respect what the player wants or risk losing him.
Girona are ‘very attentive’ to the situation with Diaz one of their main summer priorities, and they know that if he doesn’t join them, they will have to move quickly to secure an alternative.
The Catalan club’s sporting director Quique Cárcel is a big fan of Brahim because of his skill and especially his versatility, which enables him to play in several attacking positions.
The next two to three days may well determine the long-term future of Spanish sensation Brahim Diaz and even if he will be a Manchester City player come the start of the 2019-20 season.
