Galatasaray vice-president confirms Manchester City’s €10m asking price for defender

Galatasaray want Jason Denayer and Jason Denayer wants Galatasaray – that is what the Turkish media is claiming, with the 23-year-old defender, currently on tour with Manchester City, eager to return to Istanbul.

The problem has been the same for a while now, with Galatasaray feeling the pinch of Financial Fair Play and wanting the 8-cap Belgium international on loan for a THIRD time. Denayer first spent time there in the 2015-16 season before returning for their successful, title-winning 2017-18 campaign.

Meanwhile, City understandably want to cash in on a player into the last two years of his contract, with minimal first-team prospects, leading to a stand-off between the two clubs.

And the president of Galatasaray, Abdurrahim Albayrak, has publicly confirmed the asking price City want for Denayer – one Galatasaray are unwilling to pay.

“We want Jason Denayer, but they (Manchester City) want €10million,” Albayrak told the Turkish press.

It is a reasonable price-tag for an increasingly experienced, versatile defender of some quality, and one that other clubs would surely be willing to pay.

Denayer isn’t short of interest, with the likes of Borussia Mönchengladbach, Girona, Lyon and Marseille all said to be keen, but his will is to rejoin Galatasaray.

The versatile defender yesterday said as much with a single picture on his Instagram story of a lion – which is the symbol of Galatasaray.

This saga could go down to the wire with City not wanting to come across as a supermarket who clubs can loan players from at will, and cash-strapped Galatasaray wanting fan favourite Denayer back at no cost (other than his salary).

For now, Denayer is likely to play some part in Manchester City’s last pre-season game of their United States tour against Bayern Munich later tonight.
