Manchester City’s star-depleted squad on tour in America has been boosted by the arrival of fan favourite Benjamin Mendy, who has returned to City after a shortened holiday following the World Cup.
Mendy, who turned 24 this month, didn’t play much of a part in Manchester City’s title-winning season or France’s World Cup win, after an injury-ravaged 2017-18 season, but picked up medals for both.
The left-back, who cost City £49.4million when he arrived from Monaco last summer, will almost be like a new signing having managed just four Premier League appearances before sustaisning a rupture to the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee against Crystal Palace in September.
He made a few cameo appearances late in the season – enough to receive a Premier League winner’s medal – against Swansea, Huddersfield and Brighton, but featured for just 45 minutes for France in the World Cup, all against Denmark.
The Shark Team creator’s return to City duty has been confirmed by the club and the player himself on Instagram.

City face Bayern Munich in their last game of the America tour in a couple of days, and that may come soon for Mendy, but with the Community Shield clash against Chelsea just over a week away, the friendly Frenchman may target some minutes at Wembley.
