Manchester City have confirmed the signing of France under-18 captain Claudio Gomes, previously of Paris Saint-Germain.

Gomes only became eligible to join City on Monday after turning 18 per FIFA rules, following his decision to quit PSG when his contract expired – a big blow for the French giants, who considered the player one of their best prospects.
Thought fairly short in height, Gomes is a tenacious midfielder who is fast and can tackle, but also has excellent passing vision and the ability to create.
Pep Guardiola has been delighted with what he has seen so far, so much that it may stop the Blues from dipping into the market for another central midfielder.
“He has been so good, so good,” Guardiola said of Gomes. “My opinion is that at that age you have to play. You need minutes, if not with us then with the second team.
“It could be like what happened with Phil Foden and Brahim Diaz – he could stay with us, because from what we have seen in these days, the impression is good, so good.”
Now that he is allowed to play, Gomes could feature against Liverpool tonight and against Bayern Munich in the last leg of the US tour.
