Manuel Pellegrini wanted to recruit West Ham’s club-record signing Felipe Anderson while in charge of Manchester City, he revealed today.
The Chilean took charge of West Ham this summer and the club have backed him in the transfer market, bringing in the likes of Felipe Anderson, Jack Wilshere, Andriy Yarmolenko and Issa Diop.
Had things been different though, Felipe Anderson could be lining up in the sky blue of Manchester City right now.
“I followed Felipe when he was at Lazio and I wanted to bring him to Manchester City,” Pellegrini told reporters.
“He had a great season there in Lazio three years ago and when you are in clubs like Real Madrid and Manchester City you must follow always a lot of different options.
“Because you are allowed to bring in the player you want, so you cannot make mistakes.”
Once-capped Brazil international Anderson cost West Ham an initial £35million, but that fee could rise to £42million depending on performance-based incentives.
