Pep Guardiola yesterday stated clearly and definitively that Manchester City were not planning to sign Juventus ace Miralem Pjanic despite waves of stories out of Italy that the 28-year-old had become a major target.
With Pep himself saying that, you’d expect the Italian press to finally pipe down and put an end to their City/Pjanic reports. But a comment today made by an agent of one of Pjanic’s teammate means there may still be life in this post-Jorginho saga.
Speaking to RMC Sport (the Italian radio station, not French source of the same name), Carlo Volpi, agent of Stefano Sturaro, one of Pjanic’s colleagues at Juventus, said he believes City and Barcelona will both make official bids for Bosnian star Pjanic.
“Pjanic has already communicated his will [to leave] to Juventus and I expect concrete offers from Manchester City (affected by the Jorginho affair) and Barcelona,” Volpi said.
The question is, was Volpi speculating based on what he too has been reading in the newspapers, or has he heard something from a contact – perhaps an agent or even his client Sturaro, who knows Pjanic well?
One thing is for sure, even the words of Pep Guardiola and his complete denial of wanting to sign Miralem Pjanic still hasn’t managed to put an end to this persistent rumour…
