Manchester City could have a shot at landing reported target Mateo Kovacic for much less than the €80million figure recently reported in the media.
According to Spanish newspaper Marca, known for its close ties to Real Madrid, the Croatian midfielder met with new Madrid coach Julen Lopetegui and asked to leave the club.
The two had a friendly conversation in which Lopetegui attempted to convince 24-year-old Kovacic to remain at the Santiago Bernabéu, but the player’s mind is made up and he wants to leave in search of more regular football.
With the player’s will so clear, Real Madrid are hoping to receive at least €50million (£44.6million) for the talented midfielder, which seems like good value for any buyer.
Should City resurrect their interest in Kovacic, they would face competition for his signature. Bayern Munich, Juventus, Manchester United and Liverpool are four of the clubs named alongside City as having an interest in Kovacic.
