Confusion reigns in Jorginho/City/Chelsea saga as Blues deny Napoli owner’s claims

Jorginho is currently in London and according to most reports emanating from Italy, he is there to sign for Chelsea as part of a double deal that will also see Maurizio Sarri head to Stamford Bridge from Napoli.

Napoli’s president Aurelio De Laurentiis today stated publicly that the 26-year-old Italy international has chosen to join Chelsea – a decision based on their location.

“If for personal reasons I won’t get into, the player prefers to live in London rather than in Manchester, I can understand him,” De Laurentiis said.

“If Chelsea pay him more, I can understand it too. So I can just apologize to Khaldoon [Al Mubarak].

“But it does not depend on me. If Jorginho moves to Chelsea, my agreement with Abramovich does not depend on Sarri becoming their next manager.”

Despite those claims, City have briefed members of the press that De Laurentiis’ claims are nonsense and that Jorginho has no problem living in the north of England.

Furthermore, despite the player being in England’s capital, journalists have been given the impression by City that they are still not out of the race for Jorginho.

City’s counter-claims have shades of last summer’s Dani Alves saga, where he was all but a Manchester City player before Paris Saint-Germain staged a last minute hijack and signed him.

And with Jorginho now being in London, it appears that a move to Chelsea is imminent – unless City can rescue the deal at the last minute.
