Borussia Dortmund overcome Manchester City in race to sign Portuguese sensation – report

Borussia Dortmund have reportedly beaten Manchester City in the race to sign Portuguese hot-shot Rafael Leão, a youngster linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium since February.

Leão, who is said to have Kylian Mbappé level potential, is one of nine players to have rescinded their contracts with Sporting CP after an attack on the training ground in mid-May, and it was recently reported that City had offered him personal terms to join them.

However, Portuguese newspaper A Bola is reporting that the 19-year-old forward has signed a five-year deal with Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund, where he would become a teammate of former City youth player Jadon Sancho.

Dortmund are famed for their development of young players and should this information be confirmed, it is likely that Leão was offered a quicker pathway into the first team than at City, where he would be behind the likes of Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus.
