Thought the Jorginho saga was over? Not quite.
That is because according to Alfredo Pedulla of Sportitalia, one of Italy’s top transfer market journalists, Chelsea could yet interfere and attempt to snatch Jorginho away from Manchester City.
City and Napoli have an agreement for Jorginho amounting to around €55million, but that is less than Napoli had originally hoped to extract from the Premier League champions for the 26-year-old midfielder.
And Pedulla suggests that Chelsea could attempt to unlock their own drawn out negotiations with Napoli, for Maurizio Sarri, their former coach who is still under contract despite being replaced by Carlo Ancelotti, by proposing a double deal for Sarri and Jorginho.
It is reported that Chelsea could offer in the region of €60million to recruit both Sarri and Jorginho, who Pedulla describes as a ‘Sarri loyalist’, having been a key component of Sarri’s Napoli side.
It should be noted that Pedulla is being quite speculative in his article and not saying this will happen, but believes it is a possibility. And today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport, a separate source, also suggests Chelsea could be in the race.
With Jorginho one step away from City, Txiki Begiristain may want to get the player’s name signed on the dotted line quickly to avoid the risk of another Dani Alves incident…
