The 27-year-old Algerian has been pushing for a move to the Etihad Stadium since the January transfer window when City made an approach, but walked away after Leicester demanded in excess of £80million.
The Foxes have now dropped their asking price with Mahrez set to move for a more reasonable £60million, with Mahrez due to have a medical before the end of the week.
Mahrez has been identified by Pep Guardiola as one of two major signings needed to boost an already formidable squad, with Napoli midfielder Jorginho set to be the other and also on the verge of joining the Premier League champions.
