Official: Blackburn Rovers sign Manchester City midfielder on four-year deal

Blackburn Rovers have announced the signing of Manchester City youngster Jacob Davenport on a four-year deal.

The 19-year-old midfielder, a former England youth international, has joined promoted Championship side Rovers for an undisclosed fee.

Jacob spent last season on loan in the Championship with Burton Albion and despite their eventual relegation made a good impression in his 17 appearances.

He was a regular for City’s Elite Development Squad and even captained the side, leading to interest from second tier clubs.

After signing for the northern club, Davenport said: “I’m absolutely buzzing to join a massive club like Blackburn Rovers, with the history it’s got behind it.

“I can’t wait to get started and to play in the Championship for this club. The history of this club speaks for itself. When Rovers come knocking on your door, you can’t turn that down.

“The manager didn’t really have to sell this club to me, because I already know what a great club it is. He told me all about his philosophy and his belief in the way he wants to play, and that suits me perfectly.

“He’s a footballing man and I can see the way he wants to play.

“The last couple of years haven’t been what this club is used to, but going forward I think things are positive.

“Hopefully we can get back to the Premier League as soon as possible.”
