The 2018 World Cup has featured some amazing goals in its opening days. Belgium’s second goal against Panama today isn’t among the best – unlike Dries Mertens’ opener – but featured arguably the best assist of the tournament so far.
It was a goal made in Manchester as Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne provided a sublime pass with the outside of his foot to the head of Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku, who couldn’t miss.
De Bruyne had been underwhelming by his world class standards before his assist, his set-piece delivery lacking its usual cutting edge, but the 26-year-old proved that he can make a difference out of nowhere.
