Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed in comments given to The Sun that midfielder Jorginho could be a Manchester City player in the coming days after further talks were held, but the film producer is said to be unhappy at Blues bosses.
De Laurentiis, who spoke of a ‘good relationship’ with City in the aforementioned interview, believes Txiki Begiristain has gone back on a verbal agreement, the Il Roma newspaper claims.
According to their information, City had made a verbal agreement to pay €60million for Jorginho, but then offered only €45million – which according to City and some Italian sources (with others saying City went up to €47million + €5/6million in bonuses), remains the only bid to have been made.
They further claim that Napoli have dropped their asking price to €55million, and won’t accept anything less, which makes sense considering Jorginho’s agent said there is a €10million difference between what City have offered (€45million) and what Napoli are demanding (€55million).
Complicating matters for Napoli’s negotiating position is Jorginho speaking up and telling the president “Let me go!”, after his agent said there will be no contract renewal on his deal that expires in 2020.
Il Roma say Jorginho has already emptied his locker and said farewell to his friends, so were the deal to collapse the club would be left with a very unhappy player.
Negotiations are due to continue on Monday and in light of De Laurentiis’ remarks, there is newfound optimism of a deal being struck.
