Manchester City willing to pay mammoth £87.5m fee for Juventus winger – report

Pep Guardiola wants to sign Brazilian winger Douglas Costa for the second time as a coach with Manchester City willing to pay a staggering €100million (£87.5million) for him, Premium Sport HD claims.

The City boss signed Costa while at Bayern Munich, the Brazilian international joining Bayern for €30million from Shakhtar in 2015 during Pep’s tenure at the Allianz Arena.

And Juventus, who have just used their €40million option to buy the 27-year-old from Bayern, could make a huge profit which would help fund deals for Sergej Milinković-Savić and Federico Chiesa, the Italian TV network claims.

This tenuous claim comes on the heels of information from beIN SPORTS journalist/commentator Hafid Derradji that Riyad Mahrez’s transfer to City is all but done.

It seems unlikely that City would buy a second winger, but there have been reports that funds are available for a marquee signing, such as Kylian Mbappé or Eden Hazard, should they become available. Costa does not appear to fit the profile of a superstar signing however, raising doubts about the credibility of this story.

The speedy winger, capped 23 times by Brazil, played for one season under Guardiola in Munich, registering 12 assists and scoring 6 goals in 34 starts for the Bundesliga giants.
