Napoli want more time before signing off on a deal to sell midfield ace Jorginho to Manchester City but Pep Guardiola is growing impatient, CalcioNapoli24 reports.
As the saga drags into another day, new contacts have taken place between Txiki Begiristain and his Napoli counterpart, Cristiano Giuntoli. The Napoli sporting director has asked City for more time to find a suitable substitute for Jorginho, who is not an easy player to replace.
The club’s primary target has Sampdoria’s Lucas Torreira, but his agent has complicated matters with wage demands of €3.5million per season.
The problem for Napoli is that Pep Guardiola is growing very impatient, and is already looking at Mateo Kovačić of Real Madrid and Southampton’s Mario Lemina as potential alternatives.
A very clear signal has been sent to Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis: Napoli must hurry or Manchester City will look elsewhere.
Speaking to Radio CRC, journalist Raffaele Auriemma cast some doubt on the deal happening.
“Jorginho and his agent had planned to close a deal this weekend with Manchester City, because they thought there would be an agreement: but that didn’t happen,” Auriemma said on the Si Gonfia la Rete show.
“Jorginho left for Brazil without going to England. Why? Because the situation has not been resolved.
“City have offered €45million and do not want to go any higher. Their management has made it clear that they are now looking at alternatives to strengthen the team.”
Jorginho has left Naples for a family holiday to Brazil and posted an update on his Instagram while stuck in Sao Paulo traffic.
