New York City FC coach Patrick Vieira is edging closer to completing his protracted move from the Big Apple to Ligue 1 outfit Nice, but is intent on preserving his relationship with the City Football Group.
The 41-year-old, who previously coached Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad, has spent the last two-and-a-half years at the CFG club, developing his skills as a coach.
With Lucien Favre departing Nice for Borussia Dortmund though, Vieira has been in talks to take over at the Allianz Riviera, with negotiations ‘progressing well’ according to RMC Sport.
However, Vieira is biding his time and waiting to see if NYCFC can find a replacement, wanting to maintain a positive relationship with the City Football Group.
The reasoning behind this is simple – Vieira has long been viewed as a future candidate for the Manchester City job and he may well be at the top of the list of those under consideration to replace Pep Guardiola.
With that in mind, Vieira is waiting patiently to ensure the New York club can line up a replacement, before potentially returning to France to continue his coaching career. A career that some day could see him in the hot-seat at the Etihad Stadium…
