Hibernian boss Neil Lennon is hoping to bring back Manchester City youngster Brandon Barker after an impressive loan spell but faces competition from south of the border, the Edinburgh Evening News reports.
21-year-old Barker was tipped for big things at the Etihad Stadium but has failed to break through to the first team and has been loaned out to Rotherham United, NAC Breda and, most recently, Hibernian in Scotland.
His spell at Hibs went well, with the former England under-20 international making 30 appearances in all competitions and showing some of the promise that excited City fans during his days in the academy.
That has alerted a number of Championship clubs in England, who are now keen to sign Brandon, fully aware that he will not be in Pep Guardiola’s plans next season.
Hibernian hope to persuade City to send Barker back to him, with manager Neil Lennon having tried to sign him while in charge at Bolton and a big fan of the speedy winger, but interest from England could make it difficult.
Barker still has two years left on his current deal, which expires in 2020, and while another loan move is possible, this could be the summer he leaves permanently with his chances of having a future at the Etihad Stadium appearing non-existent.
