Manchester City could use Napoli’s long-standing admiration for Oleksandr Zinchenko to finally unlock a deal for midfielder Jorginho, Gianluca Di Marzio revealed on Sky Italia this evening.
Zinchenko’s name has popped up several times of late as a possible makeweight in a deal for Jorginho, and Di Marzio says the 21-year-old Ukrainian was actively discussed in talks between the two sides today.
There are conflicting reports about how much City are offering for Jorginho. The club have told the press that their only offer has been £40million and even released the names of two alternatives they could move for – Mateo Kovačić of Real Madrid and Southampton’s Mario Lemina – perhaps as a tactic to pressure Napoli into a sale.
Di Marzio continues to claim that City’s offer has been raised to €47million (£41.2million) with a further €5million/€6million in add-ons to follow.
Whatever the truth is, there is still no agreement between the Citizens and Partenopei. And Oleksandr Zinchenko may be the man to finally bring a successful end to this protracted transfer saga.
