Manchester City remain in pole position to sign Jorginho from Napoli, but the two sides are stuck in negotiations with the Serie A club demanding no less than €60million (£52.4million).
City’s highest offer so far has been €45million with an extra €5million to follow in bonuses, a proposal Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis confirmed he had rejected in an interview with Corriere dello Sport on Saturday.
And the same newspaper claims today that any offers below €60million will be returned to the sender, with Napoli trying to extract top dollar from City in the knowledge that Jorginho is Pep Guardiola’s number one choice to strengthen his midfield.
To make matters worse, it is reported that neighbours Manchester United have shown considerable interest in recent hours, but City remain in pole position having done much more groundwork on a deal.
Napoli have made it clear that no player is untouchable but only on their terms and that usually means accepting only indecent amounts of money for their stars. Manchester City must now improve their offer or risk missing out on pass-master Jorginho – with Manchester United lurking…
