A Naples-based journalist has warned that Manchester City could abandon their pursuit of Napoli midfielder Jorginho if club president Aurelio De Laurentiis tests their patience too much.
De Laurentiis revealed to Corriere dello Sport today that he has rejected a bid of €45million plus €5million in bonuses from the Premier League champions.
And respected journalist Raffaele Auriemma has told Radio CRC that City will not wait around for long if the notoriously difficult De Laurentiis becomes unreasonable in his demands.
“City have a very precise way of operating in the market,” Auriemma said. “For each position they have three alternatives.
“If Napoli overplay their hand, City will leave Jorginho and get another, because Pep Guardiola wants his business done by July 9.”
There are no real suggestions as yet that the Jorginho deal is in major doubt with negotiations ongoing, but City will undoubtedly be wary of De Laurentiis, a man known to move the goal posts when doing business.
One possible alternative and recent target, Fred of Shakhtar Donetsk, is on his way to Manchester United. Other options should anything go wrong with the Jorginho deal may include Julian Weigl of Borussia Dortmund and Nice’s Ivorian midfielder Jean Michaël Seri.
