Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid showing interest in young Manchester City defender – report

Galatasaray face possible competition in their efforts to make the loan deal of Manchester City defender Jason Denayer permanent, with two European giants expressing interest in the 22-year-old.

According to Argentina’s Olé newspaper, Inter Milan are showing considerable interest in the Belgian, after he was recommended by their former midfielder, Gary Medel, who has been playing opposite Denayer for Beşiktaş in Turkey. The Nerazzurri are considering making an offer for him in the transfer window.

Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone is also impressed by the City defender, in particular his versatility. Denayer is able to play as a centre-back, right-back and defensive midfielder, making him a potentially useful squad player for the Spaniards.

Atletico’s interest is not as advanced as Inter’s, with Simeone having other priorities, but it is suggested that they could come back for him depending on the outcome of their other business.

Denayer’s second loan spell at Galatasaray came to an end after the team won Turkey’s Süper Lig and they want to make his move permanent. They will hope the interest of Inter and Atletico is not followed up on, enabling them to sign him without too many complications.

Despite winning eight caps for Belgium since 2015, Denayer has yet to make a competitive appearance for Manchester City, having spent the last four seasons out on loan at Celtic, Galatasaray, Sunderland, then Galatasaray again.

Denayer is under contract at the Etihad Stadium until 2020 but with his prospects of reaching Pep Guardiola’s first team appearing slim, the likelihood is that City will cash in on him this summer.
