Manchester City have yet to accept an offer of around €5million (£4.4million) from Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven for left-back Angeliño, despite suggestions that talks had progressed smoothly with a deal close.
PSV were thought to be closing in on the 21-year-old, who was widely considered to be the best left-back in the 2017-18 Eredivisie campaign, being named in both the Voetbal International and official Teams of the Season.
However, Eindhovens Dagblad has cast the first doubt on a deal going through, revealing that City are not fully convinced by the €5million offer. The sale of Pablo Maffeo to VfB Stuttgart for around €10million (£8.8million) has City chiefs believing they can get something more for Angeliño, a similarly talented full-back.
PSV’s outgoing sporting director Marcel Brands has made it clear that the club cannot reach those sort of figures, and the two parties remain in talks, with PSV’s idea being to incentivise the deal with bonuses and the potential inclusion of a buy-back guarantee.
The player himself is keen on a move to the Philips Stadion, but is being made to wait as City look to get the best deal they can for him.
