Manchester City assistant coach Domènec Torrent has rejected the chance to take over at his former club Girona FC to remain a member of Pep Guardiola’s staff.
The 55-year-old is considered one of Guardiola’s most crucial assistants and ‘idea men’, usually found sitting next to Pep on the bench and advising him with tactical ideas.
With Pablo Machin leaving Girona for Sevilla, it opened up a vacancy and Torrent, a confessed Girona fan who coached them in 2005-06, was their number one choice to take over at the Estadi Montilivi.
However, according to RAC1 journalist Albert Bassas, Torrent has said no and will continue at City.
Domènec Torrent no és una opció pel #GironaFC perquè ara mateix vol continuar al Manchester City. Que sigan las apuestas…

This could open up an opportunity for another of Guardiola’s four assistant coaches after SPORT reported on Monday that Mikel Arteta, who recently missed out on the Arsenal job at the 11th hour, has been proposed as an alternative candidate to Torrent. Juan Carlos Unzué is another tactician being considered by the Catalan club.
