From Spain: Sergio Agüero wants to return to former club Atletico Madrid

There are explosive claims from Spain today with well-known AS journalist Manolete reporting that Manchester City icon Sergio Agüero wants to return to Atletico Madrid.

According to the veteran Spanish writer, Agüero has indicated that he is ‘tired of his career at City and especially at no longer being considered untouchable by Guardiola’.

Atleti boss Diego Simeone is said to be open to the prospect of Kun returning to his former club, despite the acrimonious nature of his departure when he moved to Manchester City in 2011.

The La Liga club are ‘not willing to go crazy’ when it comes to paying for a possible transfer, particularly given Agüero’s age, but are keen on bringing him back either to play alongside or replace Antoine Griezmann, who is heavily linked with Barcelona.

Agüero’s intention is to retire at his former club Independiente, but at the age of 29, still wants to play in Europe for at least two more seasons.

Pep Guardiola said earlier in May that he Agüero will remain at the Etihad until he decides he wants to go.

“It’s happened many times in these press conferences and I said maybe a thousand times Sergio is going to stay until he decides ‘my time here is over’,” said Guardiola.

“I said it last season and this season many times, and I say it today. That’s why I say it isn’t going to happen, but in football you never know.”

And today’s claims from Spain, which like in every transfer window should be taken with a pinch of salt, suggest that maybe Agüero wants one more experience in Spain before he calls time on his European career.
