Manchester City could close a deal for Napoli midfielder Jorginho this week after seeing an initial €45million bid rejected by the Serie A team.
The Blues have been locked in negotiations with the notoriously stubborn Italians to try and secure a deal for Pep Guardiola’s number one midfield target, and with the situation dragging on there has been talk of Chelsea entering the running should Maurizio Sarri take over at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have yet to agree a compensation fee with Napoli for Sarri, which may help Txiki Begiristain’s cause as he tries to sign the 26-year-old Italy midfielder as quickly as possible.
Claudio Russo of CalcioNapoli24 reports that after refusing City’s €45million offer and asking for €55million, Napoli could agree a deal worth €50million (£43.7million), including bonuses, to sell Jorginho imminently.
Napoli sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli will meet Jorginho’s entourage today for what could be a decisive day of talks, as City look to land their two major targets – the other being Riyad Mahrez, who is close to joining the club for an initial £60million – before the World Cup kicks off.
