Manchester City may have been handed a hint from Brazilian superstar Neymar that he wouldn’t mind a move to the Etihad Stadium after he admitted he would like to work with Pep Guardiola.
The world’s most expensive footballer, who cost Paris Saint-Germain an eye-watering €222million a year ago, is rumoured to be unhappy with life in France and Real Madrid are known to be keen on him.
Manchester City, meanwhile, will soon need a long-term successor to Sergio Agüero, who plans to leave the club in 2020 to return to Independiente when his current City deal expires.
And if Neymar is still on the market next summer or in 2020, his latest remarks suggest the Blues could have a chance of signing him.
“I have always wanted to work with Guardiola,” the 26-year-old told ESPN Brasil.
“It’s different, I arrived [at Barcelona] a year after he left. I really want to work with him.”
City have yet to sign a real world renowned superstar, despite many links to Barcelona icon Lionel Messi, and Neymar would be the perfect profile to perform on the pitch and also help the club grow globally.
His latest comments could be seen as an invitation for big-wigs Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain to make their move – if Real Madrid don’t get him first.
Could we see Neymar in the sky blue some day fulfilling his wish of working with Pep Guardiola?
