PSV Eindhoven are in talks with Manchester City about signing left-back Angeliño on a permanent basis, according to top sources in the Netherlands.
The newly-crowned Dutch champions want two new full-backs and according to Rik Elfrinks of Eindhovens Dagblad and Yadran Blanco of BN DeStem, hope to pay a similar amount for 21-year-old Angeliño as Denzel Dumfries, who they expect to pay €4million to €4.5million for.
That means PSV want to pay only about half of Manchester City’s asked for in the winter transfer window, which was €10million (£8.8million), and the hope is they can strike a deal for, at most, €5million (£4.4million).
Angeliño is also wanted by Ajax following an impressive season on loan at NAC Breda which saw him named in multiple Team of the Years by reputable outlets, but the Spaniard prefers a transfer to PSV.
It was reported on Tuesday that City are open to selling Angeliño, who is behind Benjamin Mendy, Fabian Delph and Oleksandr Zinchenko in the left-back pecking order. Pep Guardiola’s technical staff are said to not be convinced by his defensive qualities, despite progress made in that department this season.
If Angeliño moves on, it will mean City have made the bold decision to sell two young full-backs who many fans thought had first-team potential, after VfB Stuttgart broke their club record to sign Pablo Maffeo for around €10million (£8.8million).
Angeliño made 34 starts in the Eredivisie this season for NAC Breda, scoring 3 goals and contributing 6 assists. He created more chances than any defender in the entire league since 2010/11.
