Manchester City are competing with Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain for the signature of Santos wonderkid Rodrygo according to today’s cover story of Mundo Deportivo.
Rodrygo, 17, is one of Brazil’s most exciting talents and with a release clause of €50million (£43.9million) is attracting serious interest, particularly from the champions of England, Spain and France.
After seeing Real Madrid win the race for Vinícius Júnior, shelling out an incredible €46million (£40.4million) for him when he was just 16, Barcelona are not willing to miss out on another great Brazilian talent and have sent Pep Segura to Brazil to negotiate with Santos and try to get ahead in the race.
However, as proven when they beat the likes of Barça and Real Madrid to the signing of Gabriel Jesus – whose £27million fees looks more of a bargain by the day – City have a foothold in the South American market now and are able to compete with the likes of Barcelona for talents.
And the exciting Rodrygo is quite a talent, considered an elite prospect who can reach the highest level of world football, hence City, PSG and Barcelona being willing to spend big on him at such a young age.
Rodrygo is second only to Pelé on the list of how fast it took Santos players to score five professional goals – ahead of Neymar and former City ace Robinho.
A comparison between the 4 best Santos-talents, compared by how many minutes/games/age it took for each player to reach 5 professional goals. 17 year old @RodrygoGoes is 2nd, only behind Pelé, but ahead of Neymar!
