The experienced Chilean has had a two-year spell in China with Hebei China Fortune, but a lucrative offer from the Hammers has lured him back to the Premier League.
Pellegrini will be reunited with Pablo Zabaleta at the London Stadium, while there have also been rumours of Yaya Touré joining Pellegrini at West Ham as a free agent.
According to the Mirror though, Pellegrini could look at another midfield option, one half Touré’s age in the form of Phil Foden.
It is suggested that Pellegrini is targeting young players and that West Ham could make an enquiry as to the loan availability of the highly-rated Foden.
How Pep Guardiola would respond to such a request is unclear. Late in the season, he suggested that both Foden and another youngster in the first-team squad, Brahim Diaz, are part of his plans for next season.
However, if Pellegrini is able to guarantee Foden plenty of game time, it could give City the opportunity to have Foden gain more experience in the Premier League.
