Pep Guardiola and Txiki Begiristain have met with assistant coach Mikel Arteta in recent hours to discuss his proposed move to Arsenal, Catalan newspaper SPORT has revealed.
Arteta, 36, is the odds-on favourite to replace Arsene Wenger at the Emirates and talks are said to have started which could lead to him being appointed.
According to SPORT, Arteta wanted to talk to his friends at City to make sure he wouldn’t be seen to be working behind their backs. And subsequently, he spoke to both Pep and Txiki on Thursday, putting the interest of Arsenal on the table to them both.
Both Guardiola and Begiristain were said to be ‘satisfied with the situation’, giving Arteta their OK to take over at Arsenal should talks conclude positively.
With Arsenal chief Ivan Gazidis also expected to give his nod to Arteta, the Barcelona-based newspaper states that the former midfielder is expected to complete his return to Arsenal soon and begin his first managerial role since retiring.
