Manchester City have officially contacted Napoli to express their interest in signing midfielder Jorginho, Sky Italia transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio reports.
The Blues’ interest in 26-year-old Jorginho, a key member of Maurizio Sarri’s Napoli side this season, is well known but the first contacts mean they are formalising that interest and attempting to sign the player.
However, despite reports of Napoli setting a reasonable starting price of €40million, Di Marzio claims the Serie A club want €60million, which would make Jorginho the most expensive holding midfielder in history by some distance.
City have been put off by Aurelio De Laurentiis’ valuation of Jorginho and a ‘considerable distance’ remains over how much City want to pay for the midfielder and how much Napoli want for him.
Jorginho is wanted by City but not at €60million, which may encourage rivals Manchester United to make a bid after it emerged that they too are interested in the player.
The Italy international has made 31 appearances for Napoli in Serie A this season, scoring twice and chipping in with four assists from his deep-lying midfield role.
