Manchester City are considering a move for highly-rated Fiorentina and Italy winger Federico Chiesa this summer, Gianluca Di Marzio of Sky Italia reports.
The 20-year-old has enjoyed an impressive season with the Viola, scoring 6 goals and contributing 4 assists, while winning his first call-up for the senior Italy team in March against Argentina.
City have been watching Chiesa all season and Di Marzio says he is a on Pep Guardiola’s radar, with the Catalan looking to bring in a versatile attacker who has goals in his locker.
Chiesa is ‘particularly appreciated’ by City, although it is unclear how high he is on the extensive list of attacking targets the club have – a list said to include the likes of Riyad Mahrez, Leon Bailey, Eden Hazard and Justin Kluivert.
Fiorentina’s position on City’s interest in Federico Chiesa is that he is not for sale unless City offer a fee so huge they can’t turn it down. Napoli had a €40million-plus bid rejected last year and the player is considered more valuable now.
One thing that may endear Chiesa to City and its fans are comments the young winger made in February about his suitors.
“Who would I like to be like? Leroy Sané. I really like him. He plays for Manchester City along with other great champions like Kevin De Bruyne,” Chiesa told Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport.
“They play beautiful football and I like how he plays his role.
“I enjoy watching Sané, but also Robben, Ribery and other wingers who with hard work have achieved remarkable objectives.
“I’ll say Sané, though, because he’s just a year older than me. To see a player of this age doing so well in a team that is targeting Champions League success is wonderful.”
