Ajax sensation Matthijs de Ligt has told the Dutch giants that he wants to leave this club this summer amid growing reports of Manchester City wanting to sign him.
According to the reputable Mike Verweij of De Telegraaf, De Ligt, who has entered into a partnership with super-agent Mino Raiola with his agent Barry Hulshoff, has been joined by forward David Neres and goalkeeper André Onana in seeking a transfer.
And Manchester City are one of four clubs ‘fighting it out’ for the greatest talent in the Netherlands, along with Bayern Munich, FC Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur.
This comes on the heels of reports from both England and Spain that City are serious about the 18-year-old, despite the word from the club being they only want a defensive midfielder and forward this summer.
The Sunday Mirror reported at the weekend that De Ligt is seen as a long-term successor to club captain Vincent Kompany, and Spain’s Mundo Deportivo followed up with information that Txiki Begiristain, City’s sporting director, is already at work on trying to secure a deal for the hot prospect.
Ajax must now decided whether to hold De Ligt, who is under contract until 2021, against his will or cash in on him with wealthy European sides circling.
