They just can’t seem to decide on exactly how much Napoli want for midfield ace Jorginho in Italy, but a report today from the famous pink newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport suggests it may be more reasonable than recently suggested.
Just days ago, it was claimed by Sky Italia that Napoli’s owner Aurelio De Laurentiis would demand no less than €70million (£61.7million), €20million more than the €50million (£44million) that City were said to be willing to pay for 26-year-old Jorginho.
Today’s information from Gazzetta dello Sport paints a totally different picture though, as they claim that Napoli have set a starting price of €40million (£35million) which could rise if an auction develops for the player.
Manchester City are said to be aware of the asking price and already at work on preparing an offer that could lead to the Italy pass-master becoming one of Pep Guardiola’s first major signings of the summer.
The €40million fee mooted does sound suspiciously low for a club known to demand top dollar for its stars, but if true would seem quite a bargain for a player with the ideal profile to play the ‘6’ role in a Guardiola side.
